About the Toyota RAV4
The RAV4 started in 1996 as a small runabout sold with three or five doors. Thirty years later it is one of the best-selling vehicles in America, and for 2026 it became hybrid and plug-in hybrid only.
The floor changes with every generation, and within one: 2006–2012 models could have a small third row, and the 2019–2025 cargo deck board sits at two heights.
Generations
- 2026+6th gen (XA60). Hybrid and plug-in hybrid only; the gas-only RAV4 was dropped.
- 2019–20255th gen (XA50). New platform with a 105.9-inch wheelbase, 1.2 inches longer than before, for more rear legroom. The cargo deck board can sit high or low.
- 2013–20184th gen (XA40). A top-hinged liftgate replaced the side-hinged rear door, the spare moved under the cargo floor, and the third row was dropped.
- 2006–20123rd gen (XA30). North America got the long-wheelbase body, with an optional two-seat third row.
- 2001–20052nd gen (XA20). Redesign; the US got the five-door body only.
- 1996–20001st gen (XA10). Sold in the US as a three-door and a five-door.
